DESIGN BRIEF

To create the X Factor Event Poster I will need to do the following:
  1. Information - all the information I'm going to gather will be taken from who is responsible for the event, this will make sure that all the information included in the poster will be true. I'm going to include the date of the event, the place where the event is going to take place and what the event is all about. I may add an occasional text here and there but nothing major. The skills I'll have to learn reflect the areas of interaction; Community and Service. How am I going to create my work in order to satisfy the community? What are people expecting from a poster? Also human ingenuity is involved as I need to figure out how to answer all these questions.
  2. Creating the Product - the poster will be created in between lessons, before the due date so that if any modifications are needed, there will be time to fix it. I will use Publisher as I think it is simple and successful at the same time. I will be able to create a good poster with a simple and easy to access software. I will try and do my best to work with the images and logos and adapt them to the software and to the poster's characteristics.

Goal - Create a poster for the X Factor Event that meet the requirements set by teachers. It will make people aware of the event; what, when, where and why is the event happening. I will document all of the process on my blog in order to keep track of everything and then be able to appropriately evaluate my work. I will include a detailed investigation, reflection, design brief, design specification, reflection, and evaluation of my work.
Target Audience - The poster will have to be suitable for the school community which includes students, parents and teachers. I will interview these different people and ask them what they are looking for in a poster, what they like in posters, what they think is best to include in a poster for a school event like this one. I will also ask them for tips: what softwares to use, what colour text and backgrounds and fonts to use. I will also ask a part of my target audience, once I'm done with my first draft and then with my final draft, what they think about it and ask for some possible improvements. This will tell me wether my products works or not.
Major Constraints - Consult Mrs Daykin (time, date etc.) and Mr Mariani (softwares available etc.) This will give me a chance to create my work in the right way without messing up anything. I will keep getting feedback to constantly improve my work.
Criterion - The poster should be informative at the right point, eye-catching and pleasant to look at. It should not include too much information. A poster needs to be clear and should tell the message right away without confusing the audience. The colours need to be appropriate, they need to contrast well with each other, they need to be appropriate for the subject of the poster and same things apply to the fonts and background. It needs to tell the right information

I did some research to see and compare good quality posters. I figured what the characteristics that make these good posters are so that I can then apply them to my own poster.

POSTER EXAMPLES

These all have in common the following characteristics:
  • Brief, straight to the point information
  • Small amount of text
  • Clear - You immediately understand what it is about
  • Legibility
  • Correct use of colours of text and images against the background
  • Correct use of font
  • Highlight the most important characteristics of the product the poster is based on
THESE ARE MY DIFFERENT, POSSIBLE DESIGNS THAT I CAN TAKE INSPIRATION FROM FOR MY POSTER
